I've known many people to lose alot of weight from playing...obsesivly.

It really helped tone my calves. I was also very tones when I was playing.

Now mind you, I mean that obsesive people lose weight, playing a little will not do much but boost your cardio. I mean playing for hours at a time almost everyday.

i only played about an hour a day, but i also lightly dieted as well. i saw it as a fun alternative to go to the gym, cuz i'd take playing video games over a treadmill any day.

actually alot of schools (the ones with more money to blast of course) have it for an alternative PE. A few gyms have it as well.

My mom had a personal trainer and once at a holiday party I showed it to her (To convince her that not all games are evil) and she even agreed that it was good for cardio. But it isn't a wonder machine for newbs wanting to lose weight.

its actually REALLY bad for your heart to play ddr. proper cardio exercise should put strain on your heart for a good 20-30 minutes. like.... running laps around a field. when you expend many short bursts of energy (about 1:30 to 2:00 minutes being the average length of a bemani song) you end up hurting your heart. and most kids sit there and drink soda and eat candy while they play (i know i did when i played alllll the time) and that makes the shock even worse. its best to give yourself proper rest time after each round. or maybe jog in place while selecting your next song?

Naw, interval cardio training is great for your heart, and that's exactly what DDR is. Junkfood is another thing altogether.

right, but your going to want to make that 15-20 minute strain intervals.

not if you have horrible endurance to begin with...its great for people who are starting from nothing and working their way up to being able to run for 20 mintues...when i started playing i could barely run up a flight of stairs, and i had a really bad heartrate of like 70, last time i was at the doctor my heartrate was down to like 58 or 60ish...and the stairs thing, i can run up like 4 flights without being winded...i was finally able to take a 40 mintue jog, thanks to the new found endurance ddr helped me get to...granted it was mixed with outer things but still, ddr was the biggest part of it.

thats just called being unhealthy. you dont need ddr to gain endurance. just walk a few miles every day and slowly graduate to higher paces and longer distances.
but yeah. ddr is a fun way to gain endurance. id say the only thing it really improved in my physique is the muscles in my calves.

I noticed it tones other areas if you focus on it. Upper thighs, and if you put on weights, even your arms if you put in movement, also keeping your "core" (abs area) and you bum tight while playing helps as well... But it seems to work best when you are actually at a higher level where you are actually moving constantly.

Then again most people are just against letting it be a legit workout because it's a videogame, but it does work for endurance. so does walking for that matter, but ddr does help alot more in the heart rate area, you can walk for miles and nothing will change. I can prove that because I have actually tested the theory. I can list before and after shots of people who had started to play ddr and then after several months to a year of playing everyday for periods of time. They really did go from pudgy to toned.

I still use it as a work out, not as a game.
