Extra dance pads do not work with Hottest party 2

I have just bought DDR Hottest Party two, but it seems that 3rd party dance pads do not work!
3rd party pads do work with HP1.

Extra Konami dance pads (as with HP1) do work, but nobody sells them and the Konami site is always out of stock. I see people even complaining on an official Konami forum: http://www.ddronlinecommunity.com/forums/3/forum_topics/501

So I decided to return my HP2 and stay with HP1 - until Konami fix their problem of not working with any other dancepads except their own - OR... other dancepad manufacturers do something that makes their existing pads work with HP2.

Personally I think the problem is with Konami software so HP2 only works with their pads, either intentionally or accidentally.

If it was intentional, that's bad for their business - since people aren't going to buy HP2 once word gets out. I know I'll recommend nobody gets HP2.

If it was accidental, bad move Konami, you should have tested your Hottest Party two software with 3rd party pads (eg professional dance pads)!

Anyone know why?

DDR playing in SF

I've only lived in the bay area for a few months now (in Oakland), and I was wondering, are there any sweet arcades in SF that are hot spots for DDR? I'm used to living at the side of a machine for hours with multiple people, doing the quarter line and passing out on the floor, everyone packing their little survival DDR kit of a towel, change of clothes, a water bottle, etc...

Is there a community like that at all here? I miss it sorely :(

I train by myself in my dorm room now...where do the hardcore DDR masters roam? :P

StepMania files - original *non* electronic music?

Hey all! I've finally gotten a softpad and StepMania set up at home, and I'm dancing like a madwoman :)

The DDR originals can only last so long before they turn my brain into mush. I'm in search of interesting stepfiles, particularly those that are *not* electronic. Any suggestions on sources or particular files?

My current favorite is "Haste to the Wedding", an irish song by the Corrs. Lots of fun jig-type steps :)

Hi guys!

I'm from LA and visiting the east coast for the first time. I looked on DDRFreak to find a few locations - sometimes the sit doesn't update often.

Does anyone know of a location in Charlotte with a DDR machine that ISN'T a dollar? if not I'll just take my chances.

thanks!

Hello ~

Huzzleban was talking about wanting a DDR once we moved into a house. Well, we have, and Christmas is coming, and I'm wondering about surprising him with DDR for Christmas.

We do not have *any* video game equipment (i.e., nintendo/playstation). Pretend I know nothing about video games except for watching folks play in arcades. What should I buy? About how much should I expect this to cost? Should I buy it online (and from whom)? Huzzleban has never actually played (danced?) a round of DDR, so whatever is basic should work.

Thanks in advance

Dance Pad Quality Question

Ok, I've played on quite a few different pads both metal and foam. At this point in time, I'd like to purchase a new set of foam pads that will have good lasting quality. Many of the cheaper ones on Ebay rip too quickly, so what do you guys recommend? Right now I'm primarily debating between a RedOctane foam and a BNS foam. I've used the BNS style before and really like it's weight and feel, but haven't yet tried the RedOctane. Am honestly a bit unsure of Red Octane as the Red Octane metal pad that I played on was really no better than a cheap $100 metal pad off Ebay. Additionally the cost of the BNS is a about half that of RedOctane.

The arcade has such low volume, I was playing Wild Rush (Remix)and I couldn't hear the music. So my friends showed up with their stereo and hooked it into the machine, and it was LOUD.

So if your local arcade has crappy volume, bring in some bass speakers, or even one of those computer-sound systems. They're well contained and easy to set up. Check behind the machine for RCA (sound) plugs.

DDR tournament this Friday in San Jose

Hey all,
Jim Graham here. I'm helping get the word out about a DDR Max 2 tournament coming up this Friday at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose.

You can get all the details here: http://www.thetech.org/maxgames .

It's the third year for the Maxgames tournament, but our first doing DDR. We'll be using soft pads and PS2s. The rules we've got on the Maxgames website will change in the next day or so, based on input we've gotten from DDR folks (I can't emphasize enough that we're new to DDR and will plan a larger presence for it next year).

If you know anyone in the SF Bay Area or Silicon Valley who might be interested in competing, please pass the word along. I'd appreciate it.

And if you have any questions, post them and I'll do my best to answer them.

thanks,

Jim

So me and my lady decided after being dating for like 3 months now to actually go on a real date, we ended up spending 40 dollers playing DDR at golfland, she is fucking quick, i was sitting there in amazement doing my average 4/5 foot song because im not all that hot yet, and she was all busting the 6/7 foot songs, i thought she was having a damn siezure just from the way it looked out of the corner of my eye, then i realized that her combo was around 300 while i was at 90.... man that was humiliating, but it was the best date i have been on... me and a beautiful lady who digs ddr more then me

Whats up yall i just got DDRMAX for home consol and the soft pad, does anyone else see a flaw in the soft pad... being that it is smaller then the norm dance pad... i am not all hella crazy about ddr, i mean im not a x4 heavy player, but i am a x2-3 standard player in the arcade... does anyone else find playing at home a hell of a lot harder, (but thankfully less embarassing)

Hi, my name is Joe, I come from Indiana, and I'm addicted to DDR. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I've been playing since August of '02. Favorite mix is Extreme. Favorite songs are: anything by TaQ and a random assortment of other things. I'm more into the hard techno, happy hardcore, and mellow electronica stuff. The old pop and peppy crap is pretty painful to my ears though ^_^

Is there an official new song list for Extreme on Ps2, and is it the same as the XBOX version.

And it seems odd that they're talking about having Ultramix 2 when you're supposed to get new songs everymonth or so.

Anyway, just can't wait, and trying to spoil my surprize.

Hi,

yeah i've been gone for a while but i have something worth posting now. i'm not really happy with my hard pad, got it off of ebay. it's not that i bought it from some one shady, it's just made really really cheaply. i want the arcade feel, not the click clacking of cheap plastic step squares. so here's what i'm thinking, getting a 3x6 piece of plywood, and reinforcing it on the bottom with 2x4's. and getting (2) soft pads and using some heavy duity plastic to staple them to the wood.

i'm not really sure how it will work out though. i'm hoping better than the hard pad i have. the thing is too light and i really can't get into the harder songs w/o it movig around (paranoia 190, max 300, etc). if anyone is intrested i'll try to post some pics for how i think it should look. any comments will save me frustration in building the thing, so please don't hold back. if i'm off my rocker say so.

It just seems like too many of the "better" players are full of themselves.... People like that are what take the fun out of ddr :'( I mean I admire their dedication and everything, that's awesome, but there's a point where it's like, okay, you're good, you don't have to rub it in everyone's faces. Like the locals in Portland are a bunch of @$$holes, throwing fits if they miss a step and don't AA a song. They're always being rude to newbies, treating them like they don't have a right to be playing. I play on heavy and can AA crap, but I'll play easy songs with little kids and stuff just to encourage them. But I'm to the point where I don't even want to play anymore because every time I play ddr somebody tries to make it a damn competition.

I was first resistant to try this game because I thought it would be another ffr ripoff but I was far from correct. My friend finally got me to try it with his pads hooked up to his pc and I am official never buying another ddr game for my systems ever. He had every song ever made for ddr on there including all of the Japanese song mixes that he downloaded. It was AMAZING. I am getting an extremely fast computer within 1 - 1 1/2 months and this is first on my list to get hooked up. Does anybody know if you can just get a Ps2 controller USB adapter for the computer at? I dunno if I could just pick one up at best buy or what.

Step Mania?

Okay so thanks to someone's comments elsewhere on this tribe I discovered Step Mania. I can't believe that I didn't know about this sooner. No more being limited by Konami's song choices and slow release cycles on the PS2. Two questions for the tribe:

1) What are some good sites for getting routines for SM?
2) Can anyone recommend a shop for getting PS2 to USB adapters? I've got a parallel port adapter which works great for one player, but more players would be excellent.

Thanks much.

Is it worth it to search out the original and Konamix if I am already getting Max and Max2? I heard good things about these and they have grown rare/oop, so is it worth it to look for them? Or should I just be happy w/ Max and Max2?

And on that note, in your opinion, which do you like more? Mx or Max2? I prefer Max2.

Here we have DDR 7th & 8th, Pump 1st, and Stepping 3. If I feel like driving some, then I get to add to the list Dance Maniacs, Beat Mania, Percussion Freaks, Keyboard Mania, and Guitar Mania.

I am curious what type of games are available in your area? Also, which ones you enjoy playing?
